Release Day Launch - Seeking Her by Cora Carmack

Release Date: January 28, 2014
Synopsis:
Jackson Hunt gets his turn in this Finding It prequel novella...

Jackson Hunt hasn't been out of the military for long, but he needs to get a job and find a sense of normalcy if he is going to keep his demons at bay. The job that falls into his lap, though, is anything but normal.

Becoming a bodyguard (and babysitter) to spoiled rich girl Kelsey Summers isn't exactly what he had in mind, but it's a chance to travel, to get away. The catch: Kelsey's father doesn't want her to know she's being followed.

She's vibrant and infuriating, exciting and reckless, mysterious and familiar. When Jackson sees falling into the same patterns he suffered years ago, he decides it's time to stop watching and help her instead. But getting to know Kelsey is more difficult than he thought, especially because the more he knows her, the more he wants her.

Excerpt
I was going to have to find some way to cope with this. If not, I was better off calling Mr. Summers and suggesting he find someone else to take over his daughter-watch.
I felt a pang of something at that thought. It was a general kind of discomfort, and I wasn’t sure whether it was the thought of returning home or something else that made that thought so unappealing.

After the cooling walk earlier, and now standing under the cool, calming rush of water, it was easier to think that I could control myself, but I knew better. It always seemed easier in my head than it really was.

I wiped the water from my eyes, and tried to think of some other way to deal. There was always the hope that Kelsey would get bored. That she would mellow out. If she only partied a couple nights a week, I should be able to resist. But that seemed unlikely.

All that restless energy; the way she’d soaked up the attention from the people around her. I couldn’t see her giving that up. And it was working for her. She was still in the phase where partying made her feel good. That was the one thing that helped me stay clean. The few times I’d slipped up since I started the program had left me miserable and angry, and even more frustrated than when I started. I’d found new ways to chase the high. And maybe that wasn’t any healthier, not when one way involved being in the midst of flying bullets.

It wasn’t the same kind of rush, but it did the trick. I pictured Kelsey again, laughing with her head thrown back, her shirt falling off her shoulder and displaying the gentle curve of her neck. It reminded me of the way she’d tossed her head back that first day out in the woods.

The memory of that caused a different kind of rush in me, and I groaned, pressing my forehead into the tile. Before I could help myself, I pictured her long legs straddling that guy in the gardens. The bright green material of her bra, and the way it conformed to her perfect chest. She leaned back, her fingertips trailing from the bark of the tree to his shoulders.

In an instant, the memory shifted into fantasy, and those were my shoulders she clung to, not his.
That was my undoing. There was only so much resisting I could do in one night.

My rating: 4 stars out of 5 stars

Synopsis:
An orphaned, small-town southern girl, held hostage by responsibility and self-doubt.

A Hollywood A-list mega-star, on the run from his latest scandal and with everything to lose.

A chance encounter that leads to an unlikely arrangement and epic love affair that will change them both forever.

When his co-star and real-life girlfriend is caught cheating on him with her new director, A-list hottie, Jack Eversea, finds himself in sleepy Butler Cove, South Carolina. Jack hopes the sultry southern heat in this tiny coastal Lowcountry town will hide him not only from the tabloids and his cheating girlfriend, but his increasingly vapid life and people who run it. He doesn't count on meeting Keri Ann Butler.

Keri Ann has relied on herself so long, dealing with her family's death and the responsibilities of keeping up her family's historic mansion, that boys and certainly the meager offering of eligible boys in Butler Cove, have never figured into her equation. But fate has other plans. Suddenly face to face with the man who played the movie role of her favorite fictional character, Jack has Keri Ann yearning for everything she has previously avoided... and Jack must decide whether this funny, sassy girl is worth changing his life for, before his mistakes catch up to him.

It took me a while to get into this story, but there was something about it that kept me reading. When I first read the synopsis I thought, man this sounds interesting, I would love to read it! I'm glad I stuck with it, because I ended up really loving the story and the characters.

There is a lot of angst in this story from both of our protagonist but particularly from Keri Ann because the story is told from her point of view. I really like that Keri Ann is strong and doesn't just go crazy over Jack because he is a celebrity. She puts up a good fight in resisting a relationship with him for many reasons, but who am I kidding in her situation I wouldn't have held out as long as she did. I love that she is surrounded by people who love and respect her, It's nice for a change. Her internal dialogue was a little fatiguing at times. I get that she felt insecure especially being that he is a movie star and gorgeous doesn't help but at times I had a hard time dealing with her internal monologue and wanted to shake some sense into her.

Jack is really hot and sweet and is really a good guy, but he has obligations and is surrounded by shady people. I like that through his actions I was able to get a glimpse of the kind and honest person he is, even though there are times he really seems like an ass.

I really enjoyed the sexy scenes I was all hot and bothered during a certain pool scene and then there was another scene in the laundry room that was really steamy. There were plot twists that I wasn't expecting; Although, I will say that the beginning of the story kind of lagged a little.

By the end of this book I was hooked and now I desperately need to find out what happens next. I was excited to see that the next book Forever Jack is written from dual point of views. I can't wait to read it!

Quotes (# 44)

Morning Swooners,

After a weekend full of activities, Monday's come way too soon, now I feel like Shawn... Anyways during one of my outing with the girls this weekend we were talking about Karen Marie Moning. On that note I would like to reminisce on some of my favorite parts of the Fever Series.

"Some people bring out the worst in you, others bring out the best, and then there are those remarkable rare, addictive ones who just bring out the most. Of everything. They make you feel so alive that you'd follow them straight into hell, just to keep getting your fix."

"The most confused we ever get is when we're trying to convince our heads of something our heart knows is a lie."

"He pulls me around and kisses me. "Your're Mac," hes says. "And I'm Jericho. And nothing else matters. Never will. You exist in a place that is beyond all rules for me. Do you understand that?" "I do. Jericho Barrons just told me he loves me."

"Nobody looks good in their darkest hours. But it's those hours that make us what we are."

"One day you do meet a man who kisses you and you can't breathe around it and you realize you don't need air. Oxygen is trivial. Desire makes life happen. Makes it matter. Makes everything worth it. Desire is life. Hunger to see the next sunrise or sunset. To touch the one you love. To try again."

"Its our actions that define us. What we choose. What we resist. What we're willing to die for."

"Dying is overrated. Human sentimentality has twisted it into the ultimate act of love. Biggest load of bullshit in the world. Dying for someone isn't the hard thing. The man that dies escapes. Plain and simple. Game over. End of pain...Try living for someone. Through it all-good, bad, thick, thin, joy, suffering. That's the hard thing."

Hope you have a great Monday!

Synopsis:
You can't change your DNA...even when it says you're a murderer.

When Davy tests positive for Homicidal Tendency Syndrome, aka "the kill gene," she loses everything. Once the perfect high school senior, she is uninvited from her prep school and abandoned by her friends and boyfriend. Even her parents are now afraid of her - although she's never hurt a fly. Davy doesn't feel any differently, but genes don't lie. One day she will someone.

Without any say in the matter, Davy is thrown into a special class for HTS carriers. She has no dout the predictions are right about them, especially Sean, who already bears the "H" tattoo as proof of his violence. Yet when the world turns on the carriers, Sean is the only one she can trust. Maybe he's not as dangerous as he seems. Or maybe Davy is just as deadly.

The concept of this story really attracted me. The premise of being deemed a killer even though the person hasn't done anything is very intriguing, especially once we get to know Davy Hamilton. She seems to have the perfect life: she has a great family life, an attentive boyfriend and great friends and she's also a musical prodigy. Then she gets the news that changes her life. She has the kill gene that says that at some point she will kill someone. The book follows her with how her life changes.

Davy's life is turned upside down and I felt sympathetic towards her and wondered how I would react in her position. I think her confusion and want for everything to go back to the way it was before is very normal and understandable. Sophie Jordan did a great job in presenting Davy's feelings of helplessness. I found myself feeling like that as well and I also wondered what would happen to her and how she was going to be able to get out of any trouble that came her way.

I do have to say that the way people treat the carrier, those with the kill gene, is really horrible. And I could be sympathetic because the main character is a carrier and I understand their fear, especially because we are seeing many school shootings in real life as well. But I'm not sure that the way they're isolated and treated as killers already is a good idea. In Davy's case, it very dangerous for her. She is being threatened left and right by carriers as well as non-carriers. Some of the carriers in the book decided that they'll just go right ahead and do what they're being accused of and go on a killing spree. So I feel like in that sense, isolating them is just making it worse.

I really liked this book and the concept but I just couldn't absolutely love it. I am, however, totally curious to see what happens in the next book and what will happen to the rest of these characters.

Goodreads Summary:
Kasie Fitzgerald knows who she's supposed to be. She's a rising-star-workaholic at a global consulting firm. She's the fiancee of a well-connected man who's won the approval of her parents. People know that she's reliable, serious, proper, cautious, pragmatic, and yes a little predictable. She's who Dave and her family want her to be.

But as her thirtieth birthday looms, buried feelings begin to resurrect. Her friend takes her to Vegas for one last wild and crazy night. In a dress much shorter and sexier than anything she has ever dared to wear before, she hits the blackjack tables. And meets him. Under the tailored clothes it's clear that this is a man who is intense, powerful, and maybe even a little dangerous. With a touch of trepidation she accepts his invitation to get a drink, and before long, she's in his hotel room.

She never gets his full name. Perhaps his anonymity is one of the reasons she's able to give herself over to him and to the moment so completely. Perhaps it's why she's just had the most exquisite and passionate sex of her life. Shaken by her own behavior, Kasie tries to chalk it up to one crazy night. But when the mysterious gentleman she's just had a fling with shows up in her office-as the CEO of a firm her company does a billion dollars of business with a year, demanding that she handle his account, and so much more-things will never be the same again. And there's no telling where this will go.

**This is a Did Not Finish review. I didn't read the whole book, I only got until page 100. The following are my thoughts on what I did read.**

Jenn gave me the opportunity to read this book, and after reading the summary I decided to give it a chance. It sounded really interesting, and at the time I was in much need of a change in genres. I was sorely disappointed with the main character and her internal monologue. There are certain things that I can look over depending on the situation of the main character; But I just couldn't deal with Kasie's inability to grow a pair of balls and end things with her fiancee.

Some of the descriptions Kasie uses like comparing her boyfriend to a baked potato, (I get it was suppose to be in a good way) because baked potatoes are comfort food. Don't get me wrong I love baked potatoes, but not when used to describe ones "significant" other. I felt the imagery was all off, it was distracting. The final nail in the coffin for me was when her boyfriend proposed officially and she still accepted after everything she'd done. Even knowing that he wasn't right for her, she still said yes! After that I couldn't keep reading I was so upset at Kasie.

I will however praise the author for writing some of the hottest sexy scenes I have ever read. That first scene when Kasie is in the hotel with the "stranger" is oh so HOTT. I had to think of dirty diapers, and all things sad or gross to get my "need" under control again. This book was definitely not my cup of tea.

Synopsis:
Madison Daniel has worshiped her brother's best friend since they were kids. Everyone thinks she and Chase Gamble would make the perfect couple, but there are two major flaws in their logic. 1) Chase has sworn off relationships of any kind, and 2) after blurring the lines between friends and lovers for one night four years ago, they can't stop bickering.

Forced together for her brother's wedding getaway, Chase and Madison decide to call a truce for the happy couple. Excepts all bets are off when they're forced to shack up in a tacky 70's honeymoon suite and survive a multitude of "accidents" as the family tries to prove their "spark" can be used than for more fighting. That is, if they don't strangle each other first...

Hot, unfy, sexy and oh so good! Those would be the words I would use to describe and recommend this story to someone. From the minute I started reading, I was hooked. I would put the book down but it would just call to me and I had to know what happened next. And what's even better, it was my first foray into J.Lynn's work so I'm super excited to have read and loved something from her after hearing nothing but good things about her books.

I'm not sure if it was the Young Adult burnt out or if what fate, but this book just put me in the right mood. Sure, there were some predictable plot devices but I loved Maddie and Chase so much and they were so good together, that I overlooked that fact. The sexy times were HOT and definitely left me fanning myself. I can't wait to read the next book in the series and get more of these very attractive Gamble brothers.

Eva and David hide from the infected in the abandoned PODs. Together they try to build a life--a new beginning. But the infected follow and are relentless in their attacks. Leaving Eva and David to fight for survival, and pray for a cure.

Praise for the Amazon Bestselling PODs:
"5 Stars! I loved this book. I have been kind of bogged down with dystopias lately, but this was amazing. It was so cool to see life before the 'event', to see Eva wrestle with her choices and then, to watch her change as she lived inside the PODs...Yes, there are zombies. Yes, there's a little romance. But I think, at its heart, PODs is a coming of age story about Eva and how she grows from a girl into a strong, decisive woman during this period of absolute destruction. And Pickett writes it beautifully." ~ Sherry Ficklin, author of Extracted

"I was blown away by this debut novel from Michelle Pickett! Rather than feeling like I was reading a book, I actually sometimes felt like I was actually watching the characters' lives progress; it was kind of weird! The emotions that Eva felt were so raw and real, and I think Michelle really captured the emotions that one would be feeling in a post-apocalyptic world...PODs may very well be one of the next big things in YA, so I am very happy to have been one of the ones that was part of the beginning of it all! Congrats Michelle on your YA debut and I am looking forward to more by you!  I gave PODs a well-deserved 5/5 stars!  " ~Phil book reviewer at Stack of Hardbacks

5 glowing, sparkling stars for this one!...I absolutely adored every character Michelle introduces us to. This book isn't just about a romance, or two people fighting some battle. This book allows us to get to know several, amazing, diverse characters who all grab your heart (even a few who have attitude issues). They all held such an important place in the story… Now for the plot. Holy crap!... Michelle did a flippin' fantastic job giving us each piece of this puzzle…I won't go into details about what happens after they are removed from the POD but O-M-G! The action never stops…This book seriously needs to be a movie. I could picture every detail and already see it playing out on screen. PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE THIS HAPPEN!”  ~Jessica of Total Bookaholic

Excerpt
He flinched at the sound of my voice, snapping his laptop shut. Looking over his shoulder, he smiled. “You look beautiful in the morning, Eva. Your blonde hair messy and falling around your face, your eyes— not quite blue, but not quite green— sparkling in the morning sun… or the simulation of the sun,” he said with a crooked grin.
“Stop joking around. What were you just looking at?” I’d seen the picture on his laptop before he’d shut it. People running around their POD, a look of terror in their eyes. I reached out and opened the lid of his computer. My arm brushed against his, sending goosebumps racing across my skin. I had to concentrate to remember what I was asking about. The screen was nothing but static. “They cut off another one? Who?” I let go of his computer and started to pull my hand away. He grabbed it, folding it into his own, thReading our fingers together. He grazed his lips over my knuckles.
Oh. Wow. Do that again.
My insides swirled out of place and did things I’d only read about in my mother’s racy romance novels.
“Yes. Someone I know from class. You don’t know him. And who says I’m joking?”
“What?” He was difficult to understand on a good day, but that early in the morning, seeing him in nothing more than blue pajama bottoms, his lips moving against my fingers as he talked, it was nearly impossible.
“You told me to stop joking around. I wasn’t joking.”
My heart was beating so hard and fast in my chest, I was sure he could hear it. I pinched the bridge of my nose between my fingers. My fingernails bit into my flesh.
Say something, Eva! Do Something— anything. Just… something. “So…” I started, only to be interrupted by my yawn. Except yawn, idiot! Kiss him… wait… what?
“What’s your theory on the PODs being cut off? Do you think there’s that many people testing positive for the—”
He stood, turned toward me, cupped his hand around the back of my neck and pulled my lips to his. That shut me up. Shock slammed into me, quickly giving way to pleasure, and pleasure to urgency.
I wrapped my arms around his neck, threading my fingers through his silky hair. David’s hand moved from the back of my neck to cup my cheek, his thumb caressing my skin. The other one moved to the small of my back, pulling me tighter against him. He kissed me long, deep. It was sinfully erotic feeling his bare skin under my fingers.
When he tore his lips away, he looked in my eyes. My first instinct was to turn away, but both his hands cupped my cheeks. He bent his head and grazed his lips over mine before looking at me again.
“I’ve wanted to do that since the first day I saw you. And each day I’ve known you it’s been harder and harder not to.”
“Well, what took you so long?”
About the Author:
I'm a wife, mother, author, reader, although not always in that order.  I write young adult urban fantasies, science/fiction and paranormal romances and have recently started dabbling in young adult contemporary romance. Reading was one of my earliest passions, writing soon followed. I began writing seriously during college where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in accounting. Why I chose a career that frowns on creativity remains a mystery.

I’m addicted to Reese’s peanut butter cups and eat way too many while I write, have an abnormal obsession with hoodies and can’t write without one, and I hate to cook, but love to watch cooking shows on television. An unabashed romantic, I love a swoon-worthy ending that will give me butterflies for days.
I wrote my debut young adult novel, PODs, in 2011. PODs, a science/fiction, post-apocalyptic romance, will be released June 4, 2013 through the amazing Spencer Hill Press.  My second young adult title, Milayna, a paranormal romance, will release through Spencer Hill Press beginning in March 2014. Milayna is a standalone, with series potential. It’s meant to be a trilogy. The Infected, a PODs novel, will release November 2014. It is the second, and last, book in the PODs series.

I was born and raised in Flint, Michigan.  I now reside in a small community outside Houston, Texas with my incredibly supportive, not to mention gorgeous, husband, three amazing school-aged children, a 125-pound lap dog, and a snooty cat.

Genre: New Adult, Romance
Links: Amazon / Goodreads
Synopsis:
One year. One woman. One Diary. One question: can you ever stop history from repeating itself and if you could what would you do to stop it?

When Lilah McCannon realizes at the age of twenty-five that history is going to repeat itself and she is going to become her mother - bored, drunk and wearing twinset - there is only one thing to do: take drastic action.

Turning her back on her old life, Lilah's plan is to enroll at university, get a degree and prove she is a grown-up.

As plans go, it is a good one. There are rules to follow: no alcohol, no cigarettes, no boys and no going home. But when Lilah meets the lead singer of a local band and finds herself unexpectedly falling in love, she realizes her rules are not going to be the only things hard to keep.

With the academic year slipping by too quickly, Lilah faces a barrage of new challenges: will she ever make it up the Library stairs without having a heart attack? Can she handle a day on campus without drinking vodka? Will she ever manage to read a history without falling asleep? And most importantly, can she become the grown-up she desperately wants to be?

With her head and her heart pulling her in different directions, can Lilah learn the hardest lesson that her first year of university has to teach her: The Art of Letting Go?

Lilah McCannon’s Top Ten

What makes Lilah McCannon tick? Apart from Ben Chambers that is! Here she is; a little get to know you from the girl herself. Let’s just hope she hasn’t been at the old Pinot when she answered the question…

Favorite Color? Blue. It used to be red but I have recently changed it.

Favorite Food? Ho-Fun noodles. There is a place on the Old Brompton Road which makes the best Ho—Fun in the word. Sadly I cannot show my face in there at the moment.

Favorite Song? The Promise by Tracy Chapman – but sung much better by Benjamin Chambers. I find most things are.

Favorite book? Jane Austen’s Persuasion. I have to skip large chunks of text because it makes me cry. I still read it though, at least twice a year.

Favorite Film? This is a bit embarrassing but I don’t have one. Okay, um. Uh, definitely not Bambi. Can I think about this one?

Favorite TV Moment? Mr Darcy wet and in a shirt...Elizabeth Bennett looking like she is munching soap because she is about to be caught snooping around his gigantic estate and has realised just how loaded he is and therefore will appear a money grabbing bimbo...oh okay – just Mr Darcy in a wet shirt.

Favorite Childhood Memory? My Mum once got so drunk on gin over Christmas Lunch that she slid off her chair under the table. Dad picked her up eventually but only after we had taken numerous photo’s and Gemma our Golden Labrador had licked the brandy butter off her face.

Favorite bar/pub? The pub that smells of old farts on Putney High Street. At least it will be when they let me back in again.

Favorite Flower? Wild cornflowers.

Favorite Drink? Sorry, do you want me to narrow it down to one? Can I break it into categories?
White wine = A fun night out with the girls.
Bottles of beer = Boredom alleviation.
      Vodka =Extreme emotional situations.
Gin = For when vodka no longer works

Hold on! I’ve just thought of my favorite film. The Way We Were...

Why? You want to know why?

Because when I first watched it I thought about it every day for a week afterwards and I knew I never wanted to be a grown-up.
I also knew from the age of fifteen that I would never ever be able to let go of someone that I loved as much as Barbra loved Robert in that movie. That moment at the end where they bump into each other in the street and she brushes his hair out of his eyes nearly killed me. It was the first time I ever swore in front of my mum because when they walked away from each other I screamed “What the fuck? Are they not going to get back together again?” at the telly.
Mum just gave me a Gin and Tonic to get over the shock.

There you go that’s me and my Top Ten
