Only fools fall in love...

After her senior year of high school leaves behind nothing but heartache, Olivia Beaumont is sure of this: She’s no stupid girl. She sets out for Winston College, promising herself that she will remain focused on her first and only love – astronomy. But all it takes is cocky sophomore Brax Jenkins and an accidental collision with a football, to throw her entire year off course.

A quick-tempered Southie who escaped the inner city streets of Boston to pitch for Winston, Brax is known to play way more fields than just the baseball diamond. So, when his name is drawn to take part in his fraternity’s hazing dare, Brax eagerly accepts the mission to take Olivia’s virginity. But he doesn’t plan on falling hard for the sweet and sassy Texas girl who sees right through his bad-boy persona.

As Olivia and Brax battle their feelings for each other, echoes of the past year begin to surface. A boy who once turned Olivia’s whole world upside down reappears, and “harmless” pranks wreak havoc. Pretty soon the aspiring astronomer is on the verge of revealing her most difficult, heartbreaking secret. All the while, Brax must wrestle with the irrevocable dare, and Olivia struggles against all logic as she does the one thing only a stupid girl would do: fall in love.
4.5 stars out of 5 stars

This book had me hooked from page one. I really didn't expect it to start out the way it did; a hazy memory a hint of something gone wrong. Just enough information was revealed to make me curious as all hell. From the prologue on I have been reading like a mad person just to try and figure out what happens to Olivia who's our main character.

I really enjoy Ms. Miles writing style, it is easy to read and the transitions are flawless. The plot develops beautifully, there is enough mystery to keep me reading but enough information being given to keep me from feeling lost or confused. I liked that there isn't an over abundance of details and back-stories although she does sprinkle some flashbacks that are imperative to moving the plot forward. The pacing is spot on for this story and just makes it that much better.

Olivia is different from some of the other main characters I've read. Even after having gone through a difficult time she didn't turn all self destructive, which is something I really like about her. Olivia is a nerd through and through and is proud to be one. She is honest about who she is and isn't ashamed of where she comes from. Olivia is like a breath of fresh air for me as far as mc's go.

Brax is his own kind of special. He's like Tramp from Lady and the Tramp. Imagine a rough looking guy who's full of tattoos and some scars, but has these amazing blue eyes and dark hair. Brax is definitely rough around the edges but can charm the panties off of pretty much any girl, that's the kind of charm he has. I really like his character although I am always guessing if he's for real; but lets me honest with his charm and good looks I was a goner quick.

This story is full of funny moments that will have you laughing out loud, as well as moments that will have you feeling angst and leave you thoughtful. I really enjoyed the story and the characters. Here's a quote from a conversation between Olivia and her roommate Tessa that had me rolling on the floor.

"That famous dick of his has seen a lot of action, Liv. No telling where it's been. She frowned. Cold hard truth: He wants in your bloomers. Ring or no ring. Game on. Nothing more. She took in a long breath. His brain... he thinks with his big ole, egotistical wiener. All guys do. It leads Brax Jenkins around like a magical porn radar wand. It has now honed in on your virginal hands-off hootchie cootchie. Guard it well, chic. He'll snatch it right out from under you like a fucking bandito if you don't."
