No More Confessions
(Confessions #3)
Author: Louise Rozett

Review by: Jenn
For Rose Zarelli, freshman year was about controlling her rage. Sophomore year was about finding her voice. With all that behind her, junior year should be a breeze, right? Nope. When a horrific video surfaces, Rose needs the one person she wants to be done with, the person who has broken her heart twice—Jamie Forta. But as the intensity between them heats up, Rose realizes she isn’t the only one who needs help. The thing is, Jamie doesn’t see it that way—and that could cost them both everything.
***
ROSE ZARELLI is done confessing because confessions are for people who have done something wrong. And I haven't done anything wrong. Here, I'll prove it to you.
1) After my mother got that call, I “borrowed” her car. (Because you can’t steal your mother’s car, can you?) I don’t really remember driving downtown, but I do remember...
2) …getting past the bouncer at Dizzy’s (I mean, it’s his job to spot a fake ID, so that’s on him)…
3) …and then later, telling my mother the truth about the bar but lying about how I got in. (A truth totally cancels out a lie, right?)
After all, what’s a little duplicity when finding Jamie Forta is the only thing that’s going to keep you from losing what’s left of your mind?
See? Junior year is off to a great start.

4 stars out of 5 stars

I've been a fan of this series ever since the first book, Confessions of an Angry Girl, came out. So I was over the moon when the third book was announced. No More Confessions followed the story a few months after where the second book left us and just like the previous books, we are left wondering what is happening and why is Jaime Forta not talking to us, meaning Rose of course.

No More Confessions is a bit different from the previous books. It is interesting in seeing Rose during her Junior year compared to her Freshman year because you can see how much growth she has gone through. It is especially obvious in her relationship with her mother and with Jaime. The Rose in this book is stronger in the sense that she knows what she wants and is willing to go for it. However, when it comes to Jaime Forta, her weakness, she allows for him to derail her from her thoughts and plans. The good thing about that situation is that Jaime Forta is really good guy and even though he is a man with a few words, we know he cares about Rose and she is also his weakness. In No More Confessions, he lets Rose set the pace and goes along with her ideas even if he doesn't believe in himself.

All the previous books deals with hard topic, such as Rose's father death in Iraq, teenage bullying and drinking, this book is just the same. However, this time, it feels all the more real. When we meet Rose in the first book, she is dealing with the repercussions of her father's death but we don't see it in initial stages, This time around, we're seeing trouble right from the beginning and it definitely and eye opener for Rose. Unlike the Rose in the previous books, she is unwilling to step in for fear of overstepping her bounds and for fear that it may be true. For me, it felt like it was really different Rose because the Rose I had met in book one would have stepped in, especially because it is someone she loves. I can't blame her though because at the end of the day there wasn't much she could have done to stop Jaime.

The ending left me feeling hopeful and I can hope that maybe we'll get another book or maybe a short story on what happens in the future. Rose did so much growing up throughout the series and she is one of my favorite female characters. If you haven't already read this series, I truly recommend that you do. Give the first book a try and you'll see what I'm talking about.

EXCERPT:
Detective Hart asked a few more questions. Did I notice if they had gotten in a car? No. Was a name even spoken? Not that I recalled. Did they say anything to the man they shot? I wasn’t sure. Eventually, he got up and left the room to retrieve some photos they wanted me to look at.

I was alone with Colton.

Any other time I probably would’ve been beside myself with nervousness, but at this point, I barely registered his presence. All I wanted to do was go home and forget this night.

“Abby?”

My gaze slowly lifted at the sound of my name. His voice was deep and gruff—a morning voice.

He leaned toward me, placing his arms on the table. Short dark hairs dusted powerful forearms. The few times I’d seen him over the years, I hadn’t been in close proximity to him, but now I could see the tiny differences between the Colton I’d admired from afar in high school and the one sitting in front of me, some ten years later. Fine lines had formed around the corners of his eyes. His jaw seemed harder, and the five-o’clock shadow was something new.

Something sexy.

I really needed to stop thinking in general.

“Are you sure you’re okay, Abby?” he asked, and real concern filled his voice.

I shook my head slowly as a shiver raced down my spine. “Yes. No? I’m sorry. I’m so tired.”

“I can imagine.” He glanced at the door as he moved his shoulders, as if working out a kink. “We’ll get you home soon.”

Slouching in the metal chair, I sighed. “Is this…the start of your shift or…?”

Colton’s cobalt gaze tracked back to me. “I usually get off around eight, but we work in cycles for homicide calls. It was our weekend.”

“Sorry,” I whispered, and then frowned. “I don’t even know why I apologized. It’s got to be hard working those kinds of hours, having to be on call.”

“I imagine it is for some, especially those with a family.” One side of his lips quirked up, and despite the dire situation, my stomach dipped a bit. He lifted his left hand. “Obviously, I’m not married. I wouldn’t know.”

Quotes (#111)

Morning Swooners,
Jenn and I are super excited because at the end of the week we are going to ALA(American Library Association) annual conference in San Francisco!!! *Eek* We have so much stuff to do this week that it's not even funny. Either way the reading doesn't stop. Jenn turned me on to Vampire Academy and todays quotes will be dedicated to our new obsession.

“If I let myself love you, I won't throw myself in front of her. I'll throw myself in front of you.”
~Richelle Mead, Vampire Academy

“Do you think I'm pretty? I think you're beautiful. Beautiful? You are so beautiful, it hurts sometimes.”
~Richelle MeadVampire Academy

“The answer came to me before I'd even finished asking myself the question. I couldn't be Mason's girlfriend because when I imagined someone holding me and whispering dirty things in my ear, he had a Russian accent.”
~Richelle MeadVampire Academy

“And sometimes, if I was really, really lucky, he’d smile at me. A real smile, too—not the dry one that accompanied the sarcasm we tossed around so often. I didn’t want to admit it to anyone—not to Lissa, not even to myself—but some days, I lived for those smiles.”
~Richelle MeadVampire Academy

“Hey Rose, welcome back. You still breaking hearts?" "Are you volunteering?" His grin widened." Let's hang out sometime and find out. If you ever get parole.”
~Richelle MeadVampire Academy

“You know what I like about you, Mase? You think just like I do.” “Frightening concept...”

This week pick is: Sweet Girl by Rachel Hollis.

Max Jennings is in a bad mood. It’s not anything you did; it’s just that secrets from her past make it her natural state of being. But she’s not going to talk about it or share her feelings, so don’t bother asking.

Max’s bad mood means that very few people actually truly understand her or know that her secret dream is to be a pastry chef. When a rare opportunity to work for world-famous Avis Phillips presents itself, Max jumps at the chance. Avis and her staff aren’t stingy with the tough love, so Max spends every spare minute practicing her craft. As she bakes brownies and custards, cookies and galettes, she builds an unlikely friendship with a man she once loathed and finds herself falling into something she’s spent the last six years avoiding. Will she let her painful past stand in the way, or will she muster the strength to forgive herself and realize her full potential?
I am totally in love with Party Girl, so naturally I moved on the its companion Sweet Girl and now I am obsessed! I love the relationship between Max and Taylor. Max's story is inspirational. It's just a great read all around.

4.5 stars out of 5 stars

Needing Her is such a great book! It was hard to down because I was sucked into the story from the first page. Pearce and Rachel are such great characters; they are complex and compliment each other in a beautiful way. I am so excited for this series, and can't wait to see how Rachel and Pearce's story unfolds!! So, if you haven't read the Jade series please stop reading here. This is a great story and I don't want to spoil it for you.

Since I've read the Jade series it feels a little bittersweet, because I know what will eventually happen to Rachel. I feel that I am setting myself up to be devastated big time. I love Rachel so much and I just want her and Pearce to be happy. *weeps* Rachel is sweet, caring, and loves to see the good in people, but at the same time isn't afraid to stand up for herself. Pearce is so sweet and thoughtful and everything I didn't expect from him. I love him even more now than before. Pearce and Rachel have this amazing connection, their chemistry was off the charts. There were certain scenes that I have to fan myself just to get through because they were so steamy.

I can't say enough how much I loved this story and how invested I am in the characters. Although, I must say  that there were some areas that dragged a little, because there was a lot of information being given about the organization and the characters. If you haven't read the Jade series the information is necessary, but if you have it's a little redundant. There is however definitely information in this book that we didn't get in the other series.  I loved being able to see so many of the characters that I'm all ready familiar with from the Jade series. All in all Needing Her is a great read! I can't wait to see what's next for Pearce and Rachel in Keeping Her.

Excerpt:
Rachel's POV
I pop up from my chair and go around the desk. “Welcome to the museum.” He smiles. “Thank you. You weren’t kidding. It’s very small.”
“It’s good to see you again.” I hug him but he just stands there, rigid, his arms at his side. Oh, God, this is awkward. Why did I hug him? Shelby’s right. I need to get control of the hugging thing.
I release him and step back, my cheeks heating up. “Sorry. I kind of have a hugging problem.”
He’s still smiling. “It’s not a problem. It’s fine. I just wasn’t expecting it. I’m not used to people hugging me.”
“You’re not?”
“No. I honestly can’t remember the last time someone hugged me. Childhood, maybe?” “Are you serious?” He doesn’t answer so I say, “Well, that’s just wrong. Of course, this is coming from someone who hugs everyone. Even the mailman. Even people I don’t know. Anyway, I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable.”
“You didn’t make me uncomfortable.” He motions me toward him. “Come here. Let’s do it right this time.”
I step forward and hug him again. This time, he hugs me back. For someone who doesn’t hug much, he’s pretty good.
When he lets go, I say, “Next time, maybe do it a little tighter.”
He laughs. “Did you just critique my hug?”
“No, I’m just making a suggestion. It’s strictly personal preference. I tend to like a tight hug.”
“The few hugs I’ve had have been very distant hugs, limited to the upper body only. So to me, that was a tight hug.”
“Okay, well, ready to start the tour?” I walk over to the first display. “Get back over here.”
I look at him confused. “Why?”
“Because I don’t like not being good at things. I need to do the hug again.”
I’m trying not to laugh because this is really funny. He’s taking this so seriously.
But it’s fine with me. I’ll take another hug. I like being in his arms.
I hug him again and this time he hugs me tighter. It’s almost perfect, but then he lets go.
“How was that?” he asks.
“It was good.” I take his hand and lead him over to the display case. “But next time, don’t let go so soon. Let me, or whatever girl you’re hugging, let go first, and then you can let go.”
“I wasn’t aware there were so many rules to hugging.” He leans down and talks in my ear. “And just so we’re clear, the only woman I’ll be hugging is you.”

I hope you loved the excerpt as much as I did! I can't wait to finally read Pearce's story.

This week pick is: Party Girl by Rachel Hollis.

Landon Brinkley’s dreams are all coming true. She’s landed an internship with the fabulous Selah Smith, event planner for the Hollywood elite, taking her from small-town Texas to the bright lights of LA. Landon soon finds herself in a world in which spending a million dollars on an event—even a child’s birthday party—is de rigueur and the whims of celebrity clients are life-and-death matters. At first, the thrill of working on A-list parties and celebrity weddings is enough to get Landon through the seventy-five-hour workweeks and endless abuse at the hands of her mercurial boss. But when the reality of the business reveals itself, she’s forced to make a choice: do whatever it takes to get ahead, or stay true to herself.
I love this book so much, I just want to hug it! I want to read it over and over and over again. I love the story and the characters. I laughed, and went through an emotional rollercoaster with Landon. Party Girl is a must read.

Morning swooners!

This week pre-publication "can't wait to read" selection is:

Expected Release Date: June 30, 2015
Synopsis:
From the acclaimed author of The Edge of Normal, a riveting new thriller in which the heroine must confront her former tormentor who has escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane.

Reeve LeClaire is a college student, dammit, not Daryl Wayne Flint’s victim. Not anymore—not when Reeve is finally recovering a life of her own after four years of captivity.

Flint is safely locked up in Olshaker Psychiatric Hospital, where he belongs. He is walking the grounds of the forensic unit, performing his strange but apparently harmless rituals. It seems that he is still suffering the effects of the head injury he suffered in the car crash that freed Reeve seven years ago. Post-concussive syndrome, they call it.

For all that Flint seems like a model patient, he has long been planning his next move. When the moment arrives, he gets clean away from the hospital before the alarm even sounds. And Reeve is shocked out of her new life by her worst nightmare: Her kidnapper has escaped.

Less than 24 hours later, Flint kills someone from his past--and Reeve's blocked memories jolt back into consciousness. As much as she would like to forget him, she knows this criminal better than anyone else. When Flint evades capture, baffling authorities and leaving a bloody trail from the psychiatric lock-up to the forests of Washington state, Reeve suddenly realizes that she is the only one who can stop him.

Reeve is an irresistibly brave and believable heroine in Carla Norton's heart-stopping new thriller about a young woman who learns to fight back.
I read the first book of this series and it gave me the creeps so bad and when I heard about this book, I  immediately added it to my TBR list.

Synopsis:
Gavin tells Delilah he’s hers—completely—but whatever lives inside that house with him disagrees.

After seven years tucked away at an East coast boarding school, Delilah Blue returns to her small Kansas hometown to find that not much has changed. Her parents are still uptight and disinterested, her bedroom is exactly the way she left it, and the outcast Gavin Timothy still looks like he’s crawled out of one of her dark, twisted drawings.

Delilah is instantly smitten.

Gavin has always lived in the strange house: an odd building isolated in a stand of trees where the town gives in to mild wilderness. The house is an irresistible lure for Delilah, but the tall fence surrounding it exists for good reason, and Gavin urges Delilah to be careful. Whatever lives with him there isn’t human, and isn’t afraid of hurting her to keep her away.
This sounds intriguing and creepy all at the same time. I can't wait to get my hands on this!

You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it.” ~Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love

“I’ve come to believe that the most dangerous man in the world is the one who feels no remorse. The one who never apologizes and therefore seeks no forgiveness. Because in the end it is our emotions that make us week, not our actions.”
~Tahereh Mafi, Destroy Me
